David Wright Is Injured Again, Will Likely Miss Opening Day

At the time, Sandy Alderson called it a mild strain and said the expectation was for Wright to probably miss about three weeks.

The Mets have some infield flexibility in Wright's absence, with Jose Reyes and Wilmer Flores taking the bulk of reps at third base past year. Over the last two seasons, he's played just 75 games and hit.260 with 12 home runs, 31 RBI and 42 runs in 289 at-bats.

Wright made his spring training debut Saturday, serving as the designated hitter. The impingement is the latest injury in a series of problems for the Mets' captain, who battled spinal stenosis and underwent neck surgery last season. Last season, he was batting.226 with seven homers, 14 RBIs and 55 strikeouts in 137 at-bats through May 27 when he was sidelined by neck pain.

The Mets will likely once again utilize Jose Reyes as their starting third baseman, with Lucas Duda returning to full health across the diamond. The Mets don't play in an American League ballpark until June 6.
