Homeowner Arrested After Shooting Intruder Dead

Mason County police say Bruce Fanning, 59, found a screen taken off a window on a home he owns when he went to check on the property.

A Washington state homeowner was charged with murder after he shot and killed a man he found taking a shower in his bathroom, according to police. The homeowner found the Bothell man - identified as 31-year-old Nathaniel Joseph Rosa - showering in the home.

Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell told the Kitsap Sun that Rosa had been visiting his mother who lives in nearby North Mason. Court records indicate Fanning said he shot at Rosa three times, rather than the four times reported by other sources.

While not citing any specific evidence, local law enforcement said there is "more to the story". "You may reserve your judgment until facts are out".

It's unclear how long Rosa had been inside the home, but detectives don't believe the homeowner gave him any warning before shooting.

The homeowner went inside and exchanged words with Rosa, who was in the shower, at the time, police said. Fanning left his business residence and retrieved a hand gun from his home before returning.
