Monday's NJ Transit derailment impacting Tuesday NYC commute

Posted April 05, 2017

Travellers headed to Penn Station are in for a rough morning after yesterday's derailment of a New Jersey Transit train. There were no immediate reports of serious injuries, but New Jersey Transit and Amtrak had service delays.

The two derailments at Penn Station renewed calls for accelerating progress on an ambitious, $20 billion-plus project, known as Gateway, to add a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River and expand Penn Station. "Because of that, we must continue to operate on a reduced schedule until all repairs have been safely completed", LIRR President Patrick Nowakowski said in a press release.

On March 24, an Amtrak train derailed and sideswiped a NJ Transit train during rush hour.

Games of Thrones Season 7 has a new trailer
The promo ends with some ice cold breath; either Cersei's been chewing a lot of Ice White gum, or Winter has indeed arrived. To say that fans across the globe are just waiting for the next Game of Throne season to air would be an understatement.

Unfortunately, some fans had troubling getting to the ballpark in Queens as a result of delays at Penn Station in Manhattan. "There were actually a couple of NJ TRANSIT officers standing at the top of the stairs not letting people down onto the platform because it was so packed".

It was a sentiment many commuters could relate to after the second NJ Transit derailment in as many weeks.

There was no word on the extent of the damage or what caused the derailment.

EpiPen recall expands to US
Ironically, Mylan defended the actions by insisting that quality control was one of many reasons for the price hikes. Mylan NV announced that the additional recalled items were part of 13 lots of EpiPen (0.3 mg) and EpiPen Jr.

No injuries have been reported yet.

The 7:36 a.m. train from West Hempstead due into Penn Station at 8:29 a.m. will be diverted to Hunterspoint Avenue.

Amtrak says riders using Penn Station should expect delays of 30 minutes to an hour.

Knicks' Derrick Rose out for rest of season with knee injury
New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn meniscus, the Knicks confirmed Sunday. Prior to the injury, the Knicks hadn't ruled out the possibility of bringing Rose back for next season, according to sources .

Naparstek affected cars on the 10-car train were brought back onto the rail Tuesday morning after a slow, careful process. It is the third largest transit system in the country with 166 rail stations, 62 light rail stations and more than 18,000 bus stops linking major points in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia. In major cities like NY and Philly, you also can also avoid traffic (like I-95's never-ending construction) by taking the train.
