White House offer on health care bill gets mixed reviews

After their week-long pissing contest Donald Trump and the House Freedom Caucus have apparently come together to create a new proposal for health care in the United States.

Details of the new proposal emerged after Pence met with moderate Republicans at the White House and the conservative Freedom Caucus on Capitol Hill.

Rand Paul to his Virginia golf course on Sunday to talk health policy with the outspoken critic of the failed plan to repeal and replace so-called Obamacare.

When the Freedom Caucus left, Trump, Ryan and Priebus had a meeting and the result was "let's go to war against the people that defended the president when Ryan and those guys said 'abandon him, '" Gohmert recalled.

Moderates in the House also appeared optimistic after the meeting but were still unsure whether the G.O.P. could reach a consensus on overhauling the $3 trillion health-care industry. Played some golf, and we talked and we talked about a little bit of health care.

The collapse of the GOP's attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare has led to calls for bipartisanship, but House Speaker Paul Ryan says he doesn't want to work with Democrats.

Republicans have spent most of the past seven years vowing to protect people with pre-existing conditions, even as they have pledged to get rid of the Affordable Care Act.

Ethics lawyers who worked for both Republican and Democratic presidents said Scavino violated the Hatch Act, a federal law that limits political activity by government employees. Ryan canceled a scheduled vote on a House GOP plan after it became obvious that Republicans didn't have the votes. He encouraged the conservative House Freedom Caucus, which was largely blamed for the bill's derailment, not to support the measure - much to the dismay of the administration.

"We just needed to have these conversations earlier", Brat said in a basement hallway crowded with reporters.

The Freedom Caucus is reportedly pushing for the elimination of two key Obamacare provisions: the requirement that insurers cover 10 essential health benefits, and the community rating provision, which requires insurers to set premiums based primarily on an applicant's age and location (as opposed to her individual health status).

On Saturday, Dan Scavino, the White House social media director, sent out a tweet calling for the defeat of Rep. Justin Amash, a Freedom Caucus member from MI. Ron DeSantis (Fla.) and Mike Kelly (Pa.) - stood up during Tuesday's GOP conference meeting and told leadership the House should delay its recess until it passes a health bill, sources in the room said. "The second way, which I hate to see, then the Freedom Caucus loses so big and I hate to see that", said Trump. Members of the Freedom Caucus are also looking for the White House to give states the ability to opt out of the community ratings provision, which now protect consumers from insurers charging higher premiums to individuals based on their their medical history or gender.

But there was no evidence that the proposal won over any GOP opponents who'd forced Trump and party leaders to beat an unceremonious retreat on their bill on March 24, when they canceled a House vote that was doomed to failure.

Also that day, The Post and Courier newspaper in SC reported that Trump dared Sanford to vote against the overhaul bill.

When asked if there will be a health vote by the end of the week, Ryan said he didn't know.

Said Rep. Raul Labrador of Idaho: "I think it would be a mistake to rush it".

"Get members talking; that's happening; get everybody engaging with one another; that's happening".

"We are not now negotiating with the Freedom Caucus".
