Misbah announces retirement from international cricket

Pakistan's Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq today announced his retirement from global cricket, saying the upcoming series in the West Indies will be his last assignment.

Kraigg and Carlos have been dropped from the 13-man squad for the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, beginning on April 7 at the Providence Stadium.

Misbah, who made the major announcement during a press conference in Lahore, revealed that he had informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about his decision a while back.

He was appointed Test captain in October 2010, having played only 19 Tests at the time, and went on to become the side's most successful captain, with 24 wins in 53 matches. He's got the opportunity to return to first-class cricket and score runs which he has done, and also a good opportunity for him to get in good nick and feel comfortable about his game before the Test series starts. "Regarding when I will leave domestic cricket, I will decide it later".

He has scored 4,951 runs in 72 Tests at an average of 45.84, hitting the most recent of his 10 centuries in victory over England at Lord's in July.
