Mike Rutherford, who was one of the judges, said: "Jaguar has done the unthinkable by first securing the World Car Design of the Year award, then lifting the big one - the overall World Car of the Year trophy". The Jaguar beat two other SUV finalists, the Audi Q5 and Volkswagen Tiguan, to grab this year's main prize.

Jaguar's first SUV F-Pace was declared the World Car Design of the Year and World Car of the Year 2017 at the New York International Auto Show, that kicked off on Wednesday.

It's a double celebration for Jaguar after their F-PACE landed two top titles at the World Car of the Year Awards this week.

"It's spacious, too, and - something I haven't mentioned yet, but perhaps the most important point of all - it looks fantastic". There were doubts regarding the durability and power of the Jaguar SUV.

In 2016, 122,460 F-Paces were sold. It was against the Chevrolet Bolt- victor of the 2017 North American Car of the Year award and the Tesla Model X plug-in electric SUV.

The Jaguar F-PACE, priced from £34,730, is designed and developed in the United Kingdom and built at the Lode Lane factory in Solihull alongside Land Rover models including the Range Rover, the new Discovery and the soon-to-be-launched new Range Rover Velar.
