Panthers reach 5-year deal with defensive star Kawann Short

Posted April 18, 2017

Short signed a five-year, $80 million contract with Carolina, the only franchise he's ever known, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The team has not disclosed the financial details yet.

The Panthers placed the franchise tag on Short in February. The franchise's decision to rescind the tag on Norman past year, letting him walk to the Redskins on a new free agency deal, was a weird thing. "I'm absolutely thrilled that we were able to get this deal done".

No "Josh Norman" situation to see here. Short notched just six sacks last fall, but remained a key presence on the team's defensive line.

According to Kelly, Alex Jones really is as maniacal as he seems in his many public outbursts. "I will not let you down". Millions of people watch Alex Jones , and certainly seem to believe him.

Locking in Short long-term and ensuring he'll be ready to play in 2017 gives the Panthers a pretty stout defense heading into the coming year, which Carolina expects should be a bounceback year after a disappointing 2016. He has career totals of 176 tackles, 22 sacks, 88 quarterback pressures, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and 13 passes defensed.

"I didn't even think about that", he said. Off the field, KK is a top-notch young man and great representative of our team. Between a happy Kawann Short, Star Lotulelei on his 5th year option, and Vernon Butler on his second year in the league, the Panthers rotation looks to be stacked this year and for the future.

Short said he planned to celebrate the new contract by working out with his teammates on the first day of the team's offseason conditioning program.

Carolina drafted the 28-year-old Short in the second round (44th overall) in the 2013 draft.

The Panthers also announced Monday that restricted free agent guard Andrew Norwell and exclusive rights free agents center Tyler Larsen and punter Michael Palardy signed their contracts, taking them off the free agent market.
