White House Dodges Western Wall Questions, Says It's 'In Jerusalem'

Trump will visit the wall on his trip to Israel next week, the first sitting US president to do so.

President Donald Trump's national security adviser on Tuesday sidestepped questions about whether Jerusalem's Western Wall is part of Israel ahead of Trump's planned visit to the Old City.

The Western Wall, located in the Old City of Jerusalem, is in "disputed territory", Berns reportedly said.

The Texas senator's statement follows statements from three separate Trump administration officials refusing to say whether the Western Wall in (Israel's capital city of) Jerusalem is part of Israel.

Earlier this month, he held a warm meeting with the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, at the White House.

Israeli right-wingers have pressed Trump to stick to his pledge to move the embassy to Jerusalem, but the president has backed away since taking office, saying it was still being looked at.

Friedman, who owns an apartment in Jerusalem, is expected to live in the US ambassador's official residence in the Tel Aviv suburb of Herziliya.

The status of sovereignty over the wall became a political issue between the US and Israel earlier this week. "His love for and commitment to the State of Israel is rock-solid and enjoys his highest priority".
