Hodges declared that new leadership was needed and said she accepted Harteau's resignation after the two had a conversation about it. Hodges pledged to move the city forward. The crowd also chanted "Bye, bye, Betsy".
"It is understandable to me that people's frustration is high", she said.
Hodges' own media conference on Friday evening quickly descended into chaos as protesters angrily called for the mayor to resign as well, saying they "had been terrorized enough".
Minneapolis police chief Janee Harteau had been under pressure over her handling of the shooting death of 40-year-old Justine Damond last Saturday night.
She said while she has not talked directly to Noor, she has reached out to the department's Somali-American officers as well as to leaders in the city's Somali community. Much of that data was collected by former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Larry Brubaker, an author who researched officer involved shootings between 1981 and 2010.
Court ends hearing into corruption charges against Pakistan PM
Although in the past the Prime Minister was denounced for several cases of corruption, these were never proven. Most analysts are divided on whether the court will simply disqualify Sharif or recommend a new investigation.
She said BCA information confirmed the shooting should not have happened and sent her condolences to Australia and Ms Damond's family, friends and loved ones. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said that as officers tried to handcuff Clark one officer said "he's got my gun", the other officer shot him, and Clark's DNA was found on the grip of the gun.
Chief Harteau said she understood why the incident could make some people more reluctant to call 911.
Harteau was recently in the center of a controversy with Minneapolis Pride, as the organizers of the parade banned uniformed police officers from marching following the acquittal of the police officer who killed Philando Castile.
Harteau has spent her career with the department, starting as a beat cop in 1987 when she was 22. Hodges faces a tough re-election contest.
Clad in pajamas, Damond, an Australia native, approached the responding police auto on the driver's side. City Hall was locked when the protesters first arrived, but they eventually found their way inside. A U.S. Department of Justice review faulted poor communications between the mayor and chief.
Hodges admitted that the question spoke to the wider culture of policing in the US.

But a nightmare collapse of three wickets in the space of 12 balls left them five down with 74 runs still needed. But the two players at the crease were well equipped to shake off the ghosts of past. "What a game of cricket".
She also said, "Justine didn't have to die". She said Arradondo will work to cement those changes.
Hodges referenced the chief's resignation earlier in the press briefing before it was shut down by demonstrators. The partners endured years of harassment from some male colleagues, and it escalated to the point where they felt endangered because they weren't getting help when they would call for backup.
He told the Star Tribune it's "certainly reasonable" for an officer to be concerned about an ambush.
Damond is believed to have been living in the USA for at least the past three years.
Another protester said he believed Minneapolites wouldn't be fooled by the appointment of new police chief Arradondo, who is black. Harteau said that the ban was "divisive" and that it "hurt" LGBTQ police officers.
