Herat mosque blast 'kills many' in Afghanistan

The explosion on the evening of August 1 struck the Jawadia Mosque in the Dehr Abad area of Herat city.

No further details have been provided by the outlet so far.

The toll was likely to rise as many among the injured remained in critical condition.

Hospital authorities in Herat said all the dead and wounded were worshipping in the mosque when a suicide bomber blew himself up.

A security source, who declined to be named, said IS could prove to be more unsafe than the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan's national unity government said it strongly condemned the Herat attack, describing it in a statement as an "anti-Islam act".

President Ashraf Ghani added that "terrorists can not create sectarian divisions among our people".
