Walmart teams up with Google to tackle Amazon

Deli Market News will continue to report. Under the new partnership, shoppers can make purchases via voice-enabled Google Home devices, as Amazon does with its Alexa-enabled Echo devices.

Per media sources, Google will offer numerous Walmart items on the Google Express, Google's online marketplace and through the voice-controlled Google Assistant starting from September end.

Google first introduced voice shopping to Google Home earlier this year with partner retailers like Costco, Walgreens, and PetSmart, according to Recode, in what looked like to many a clear effort to combat Amazon's longstanding stronghold of voice ordering technology. Google Express just ditched its $10 per month or $95 per year membership fees, and will pick up your order and deliver them to your house, between one to three days later. In fact, the company expects to start voice shopping experience in its 4,700 US stores and its fulfilment network by next year. The question is if this move will actually help Walmart compete with Amazon.

This represents Walmart's latest foray into the e-commerce space.

Sears Shuttering 28 More Locations, Comparable Sales Down 11.5%
The discount retail chain had more than a dozen stores in the area in 2011, according to Post-Dispatch files. As of Wednesday's market close, shares of Sears have fallen more than 40 percent over the past 12 months.

A less flashy but equally important part of the announcement is that Google Express will now be free if the order value is above some defined purchase minimum (typically $25-$35).

Fi and Google Voice customers can link their numbers with Google Home so as to get rid of spammed numbers.

But while Amazon and Google's voice-controlled speakers are gaining popularity, people use them mainly for basic tasks such as making telephone calls or playing music. Walmart now operates online grocery delivery service in six markets. For instance, customers can create a list of items they often buy and quickly access that list when they order.

"For example, if you order Tide PODS or Gatorade, your Google Assistant will let you know which size and type you previously ordered from Walmart", he wrote.

Verizon's new unlimited plans throttle video all the time
To offset the change, the company added an additional 5 GB mobile hot spot data (now it's 10 GB total) at no additional charge. Verizon has announced that its unlimited plan is being split into three plans with more restrictions and throttling.

The partnership enables Walmart to challenge Amazon's dominance of the USA voice shopping market.

Walmart's own mobile payment system called Walmart Pay has also enabled shoppers to pay through its existing smartphone app in all of its 4,500-plus US stores.

Walmart also plans to integrate its quick reordering tool into the tech company's same-day delivery service, Google Express, according to Lore.

Wal-Mart is still primarily known as a brick and mortar business, but the company's e-commerce segment has been growing steadily after many years of fits and starts, with a 60 percent increase in Walmart.com net sales in its last quarter.

New polls: Trump's approval down in key election states
Trump was the first Republican presidential candidate to carry those states since the 1980s, winning by a combined 80,000 votes. In Michigan, voters by a 42-to-39 percent margin say the USA economy has been strengthened by Trump's decisions as president.

And as The New York Times notes: "Google is a laggard in e-commerce".
