Suspects in Kim Jong Nam murder plead not guilty

The Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) arrested Huong on February 15 and Aisyah on February 16 after the two were identified through CCTV footage of the attack.

Security footage showed the two women, 25-year-old Indonesian Siti Aisyah, and 29-year-old Vietnamese citizen Doan Thi Huong, walking up behind Kim and rubbing their hands on his face. Juliana Idris was the first person he spoke to at the counter.

Siti Aisyah, 25, of Indonesia and Doan Thi Huong, 28, of Vietnam were charged with the February 13 killing of Kim Jong Nam by smearing VX in the man's face at the airport in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur.

North Korea has denied involvement in the killing and argued that Mr. Kim died of a heart attack. North Korean agents told them that they were part of a prank for a hidden-camera reality show.

The pair pleaded not guilty to the murder charges pressed against them at a Malaysian court on Monday. The two countries fell out after Malaysia expelled the North Korean ambassador-believing that embassy staff had been involved in the murder-leading Pyongyang to bar all Malaysians from leaving the country.

North Korea has a long history of ordering killings of people it views as threats to its regime, though Kim was not thought to be seeking influence over his younger brother.

The killing led to weeks of tensions between Malaysia and North Korea.
