Weekend weather: Highs in the 60s, with showers possible

Posted October 08, 2017

We do have a little better chance to see some scattered showers during the day. We are on the weather watch for some steady (perhaps heavy rain) from what is now Hurricane Nate Sunday night into Tuesday morning. Rain will hold off until after midnight, with an increasing chance (30 percent) of showers after 2 a.m. Winds will be gusty from the southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour. This is followed by an area of showers or even steady rain on Monday from the south.

The first wave of showers and a few storms arrive this evening and tonight.

Tonight: Tonight will be cloudy with a low of 65.

The state is already preparing to send out termination notices for coverage. "It puts a gap in the state's budget", Piper said. More children in the state are eligible for early care and learning than now receive it due to limited resources, she says.

With the eastern sun shining through the downtown Portland office window, it's fairly hard to read what's on the computer screen: "Showers likely, mainly after noon". Temperatures will soar into the low to middle 80s heading through the afternoon hours. Saturday morning will start in the upper 40s & low 50s; average lows are around 42°! The lack of rain, coupled with above-average warm, sunny weather has led to much of the region east of Interstate 77 to be classified as "abnormally dry" in the latest version of the Drought Monitor.

Some showers are likely after 8 a.m. Sunday when the high will reach 80 degrees. A few 80-degree readings over interior southern ME are possible.

Friday: Showers with highs in the upper 60s. As Tropical Storm Nate makes a Gulf Coast landfall predawn, likely as a hurricane, it will trek north-northeast, bringing rain with it.

Red Sox will try to clinch AL East title once again
Tanaka delivered the best start of his four-year tenure with the Yankees, who stayed alive in the American League East race. It's just the sixth time in Major League Baseball history that three teams have won at least 100 games in the same season.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear - low around 60. The remnants of Nate are expected to be over the Mid-Atlantic States Monday night while a cold front approaches the Southeast. Temperatures will be cooler on Monday, with highs in the 60s. As that high slides to our north, it will push down cooler air, so we'll get highs in the mid 70s on Wednesday.

Saturday: Early clouds then partly cloudy, warm and becoming more humid.

In response to the stabbings, Mayor Bill de Blasio said he would tighten security at the school and implement scanning Thursday. The school does not have metal detectors, officials said, adding that this knife would have been picked up if there were.
