The NCAA publicly announced the Graduation Success Rate of all Division I institutions today, with George Washington student-athletes achieving a Graduation Success Rate of 94, seven percent higher than the NCAA Division I average of 87, and exceeding last year's reported mark of 93. The NCAA calculates the rates based on the number of student-athletes who graduated within six years after initially enrolling, in addition to those who left an institution prior to graduating but would have been academically eligible to compete. This year's change was marked by a 3 percent increase from last year for African-American athletes, to 77 percent from 74 percent. "By producing market-ready graduates at a record pace, we will continue to differentiate ourselves by the success of our former student-athletes five and 10 years after graduation and beyond".

"We're proud of the success our student athletes have made in the classroom", Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt said in the release. The Wolf Pack's first score was 62 percent in 2005 and the GSR has risen steadily since.

Thus, those in the 2007 freshman class would have earned a degree by 2013; those in the 2008 class by 2014, those in the 2009 class by 2015, and those in the 2010 class by 2016. The NCAA also calculates the federal graduation rate for student-athletes because it is the only rate by which to compare student-athletes with the general student body.
