BJP announces second list of 36 candidates for Gujarat

The election result will be declared on 18 December. A total of 89 seats will go to the polls in the first phase and 93 in the second phase.

Senior leaders of the BJP believe that the party is giving time to these candidates to prepare for the elections early so that the BJP candidates are able to win those seats from the Congress party members.

Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani will contest from Rajkot West, while Deputy CM Nitinbhai Patel will contest from Mahesana and state party president Jitubhai Vaghani from Bhavnagar West.

Out of the 70 names announced Friday, 42 were of seats that are going to polls in the first phase and 28 were for those that go to polls in the second phase.

Interestingly, out of the 36 names issued by the BJP leadership, a majority of the BJP candidates are those who would contest elections on the seats which were won by the Congress party in the 2012 assembly polls. "The group led by Nitish Kumar is hereby recognised as the Janata Dal (United)".
