Donald Trump caresses turkey's rear before pardoning it for Thanksgiving

It's the 70th year that the trade group has presented the US president with a turkey to mark the Thanksgiving holiday.

As Trump pardoned the turkeys, some of his political critics wondered if he planned to use his pardoning power as the investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election continue. This year, that's Carl Wittenburg from Alexandria, Minnesota.

The president lovingly stroked Drumstick's rear before pardoning the bird and his friend, Wishbone, outside the White House on Tuesday.

"Please stand what a great job you've done", Trump said.

Mr Trump praised the turkey he was pardoning, Drumstick, as a "big bird" and played up its hopes for the years to come. However, I have been informed by the White House councils office that Tater and Tot pardons can not under any circumstances be revoked'.

"So Tater and Tot, you can rest easy", the President said.

The resolution was tweeted by Collier Tynes, former chief of staff to ex-Alabama First Lady Dianne Bentley. Trump has not addressed the allegations directed at Moore on Twitter.

"Today I'm going to be a much nicer president", he said.

Presidents like George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama have all participated in the annual tradition. But Drumstick and his pal Wishbone just might be the most thankful of all.

Sanders was referring to a poll the White House posted on Twitter, asking people to vote on which turkey Trump would pardon in the ceremony. Trump is set to spend the Thanksgiving holiday at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.
