Mueller probing Kushner's 2016 attempts to block UNSC settlement resolution

Robert Mueller, the special council appointed to investigate the Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election, is looking into conversations held between Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump's advisor and son-in-law, and Israeli officials, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

Mueller's team is reportedly also investigating Kushner's role in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey. Those contacts are the one of the subjects of Mueller's line of inquiry, the Journal reported.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Mueller's team is probing Kushner's involvement in the controversy surrounding a United Nations resolution passed in December 2016 that condemned Israeli settlement construction.

Kislyak adapted a meeting amongst Kushner and the CEO of Russia's Vnesheconombank, Sergei Gorkov who was chosen by Russian President Vladimir Putin in January 2016 as part of a reforming of the bank's management team. Although this custom was violated by several incoming USA president elects, it was rare for any of them to actually attempt to reverse the sitting president's policies.

The special counsel's wide-ranging probe is specifically curious about Kushner's contacts while a United Nations resolution pertaining to Israel's occupied settlements was before the General Assembly in December 2016, during the heart of the transition.

Under the Obama Administration the U.S. abstained and was the only one of the 14 countries on the UNSC not to approve the measure in December 2016. Kushner, who met with more than 100 officials in that time period, said he had four meetings with Russians.

Kushner dismissed the meeting, but the possibility of creating a diplomatic backchannel between Trump and Moscow in order to evade detection by the US intelligence apparatus-as reported by The Washington Post-only brings extra scrutiny to the omissions on his clearance forms. A personal friend of Kushner who requested anonymity alleged that the special adviser was alarmed by the indictments and asked him "Do you think they'll get the president?"
