Samsung Notebook 9 2018 models include 2-in-1 "Pen" version

Samsung has announced the 2018 version of the Notebook 9 ahead of its official first appearance during CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Notebook 9 comes with the latest-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Samsung Dual Channel Memory for a faster speed and 16GB of RAM that can pack up to 512GB of space and a boost speed to are markable 3.5GHz.

Both the new Notebook 9 models use a Metal12 chassis which Samsung claims make them more durable that their predecessors but keeps them lightweight and portable. The 15-inch Notebook 9 (2018) comes in another variant that features NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics.

Samsung's Notebook 9 was one of the thinnest and lightest 15-inch laptops we tested in 2017 and it had one of the longest battery run-times at more than 12 hours.

On the other hand the Notebook 9 Pen comes with a 360 degree hinge and is called as an S Pen which is smaller and doesn't require battery since it fits insider the holster in the device.

This device has an inbuilt S Pen. When removing the pen, it launches S Pen shortcuts to apps like Samsung Notes and Autodesk Sketchbook. Unique among the three, it features an IR camera that supports Windows Hello facial recognition sign-in.

Samsung plans to first release these 2018 models in Korea starting this month, followed by other countries; the U.S. will get them in the first quarter of next year.

Samsung has also packed a RealView display into both versions of the Notebook 9, offering what the company describes as life-like colors. On the connectivity front, it supports one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, one HDMI port, uSD, HP/mic and DC-in.

Samsung is also refreshing its regular Notebook 9 models, with 13.3-inch and 15-inch updates. For connectivity, the 13-inch Notebook 9 (2018) is equipped with USB-C, USB 3.0, HDMI, United States dollars card slot, headphone/microphone and DC-in whereas the 15-inch model has Thunderbolt 3 (or USB-C), USB 3.0, HDMI, uSD card slot, headphone/microphone jack and DC-in.

System builders have been releasing new and refreshed laptop models built around Intel's recently launched 8th Generation Core processor family for mobile (Kaby Lake Refresh or Kaby Lake-R, not to be confused with Coffee Lake on the desktop). The Samsung Notebook 9 Pro had been announced in May this year at the Computex 2017.
