Multiple deputies down following domestic disturbance call at Colorado apartment complex

The deputies were responding to a "shots fired" call early Sunday morning at an apartment complex on the 3400 block County Line Road between Colorado and University Boulevards.

The medical condition of the surviving deputies and the nature of their injuries were not immediately known.

He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters. Two civilians also were wounded by the suspect, the Sheriff's Office said. All of the officers were shot very quickly and went down within seconds of each other, Spurlock continued.

A gunman opened fire, hitting five deputies and two civilians.

Douglas County officers later tweeted a "code red" warning, urging all locals in the Highland Ranch area to stay indoors and keep away from windows.

The scene is active and people are advised to avoid the area. Authorities say an emergency shelter has been set up for those displaced by the shooting.

US President Donald Trump offered his condolences to the shooting victims.

Law enforcement agencies including the Parker Police Department, the Lone Tree Police Department, the Castle Rock Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol were lending assistance, they added in a tweet.

"He loved to serve", Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said.

The deputies who were injured crawled to safety, but could not pull Parrish out of the way.
