Army soldiers killed in LoC shelling

Four Army personnel, including a captain, were killed and four others, including two teenagers, injured in Pakistani shelling along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts yesterday.

An Indian official says Pakistan started firing artillery and small arms Sunday onto Indian positions, while a Pakistani official says Indian forces started the violence by firing onto the Pakistani side.

The Indian Army's Vice Chief, Sarath Chand, said the force will give a befitting reply and its action will speak for itself.

Earlier on Sunday, a 15-year old girl and a soldier were injured in Pakistan ceasefire violation in Shahpur area of the LoC in Poonch district.

More than 14 people have been killed in Pakistani shelling on the LoC and the worldwide border since January 17.

Captain Kapil Kundu, who was killed in Pakistani shelling along the LoC on Sunday, was six days short of his 23rd birthday, a senior Army official said.

- Rifleman Ram Avtar, 28, of Baraka village in Gwalior, was also killed in the ceasefire violations in Rajouri on Saturday.

The statement also said that heavy damage was inflicted on a Pakistani post in retaliatory action.
