Ex-NFL player Jonathan Martin detained by police over social media post

A former Harvard-Westlake student made an indirect threat on Instagram, seeking revenge as a bully victim, police told multiple media outlets in Los Angeles. "So, out of an abundance of caution, we made the decision to close school today", the email read. LAPD said that the closure was because of actions by a "former student of the preparatory school [who] apparently used Instagram to say he wanted to seek revenge for alleged bullying he underwent when he attended one of the school".

Kway said the department was unable to publicly confirm that Martin's Instagram stories post was what caused the shutdown. "The school's private security team is working with the Los Angeles Police Department, which is present on both campuses".

The post, which was uploaded to the Instagram story of Jonathan Martin '08, featured a shotgun surrounded by shell casings.

It was not immediately clear whether Martin posted the photo himself and he was not under arrest Friday afternoon.

LAPD officials declined to name the person who had been detained, but said that person is believed responsible for the post.

"You learn to tone down your size & blackness by becoming shy, introverted, friendly, so you won't scare the little rich white kids or their parents", Martin wrote, according to the Times.

"At no point did I feel greatly concerned about my safety or the safety of others because of the precautions that Harvard-Westlake takes for all of us". An NFL investigation determined that Dolphins teammates Richie Incognito, Mike Pouncey and John Jerry subjected Martin to "a pattern of harassment" in "a classic case of bullying". Martin was a member of the Miami Dolphins who was at the center of a bullying scandal in the National Football League five years ago.
