The planned parade is meant to highlight the contributions veterans have made "throughout the history of the U.S. Military", the letter said, dating from the Revolutionary War to present day, "with an emphasis on the price of freedom".

President Trump will get his military parade in November, according to a Pentagon memo.

Critics were quick to call the parade into question, however, raising concerns over factors including financial costs and its potential affect on D.C. streets and operations.

According to a Pentagon memo, tanks will not be included to "minimise the damage done to local infrastructure".

The suggested plans do, however, call for a representation of veterans across US history and an air demonstration, according to a note from Defense Secretary Jim Mattis's office at the Pentagon.

The planned route for the parade will be from the White House to the Capitol Building, which is 1.8 miles long. Trump will view the event while surrounded by veterans and Medal of Honor recipients in the Capitol's reviewing area.

It is pertinent to mention that Department of State is planning to invite heads of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allied member states to watch the parade along with President Trump.

The parade will also feature period uniforms from the Old Guard Fife and Drum, a unit that parades in period uniform.

While public opinion has been divided on the value of such a parade, Pentagon officials said last month they were studying options to execute the event at Trump's bidding.
