Politically charged House Intel Committee releases final report on Russian Federation election meddling

Republican members, while finding "no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded, coordinated, or conspired with the Russian government, ' accused the United States intelligence community of "significant intelligence tradecraft failings" and bashed the Obama administration for 'slow and inconsistent" response to Russia's machinations, which they implicitly acknowledged.

"To determine whether this evidence of collusion reaches the level of proof beyond a reasonable doubt of criminal conspiracy, we must await the report of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, since the Majority refused to interview the witnesses and obtain the documents necessary to find out", he went on. No coordination, no nothing.

"I don't believe the information we're releasing today meets that standard which is why my team and I will continue to challenge the many unnecessary redactions with the hopes of releasing more of the report in the coming months", Conaway said.

"Committee Republicans chose not to seriously investigate — or even see, when in plain sight — evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia", Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the top Democrat on the committee, said in a statement.

The jab towards Special Counsel Robert Mueller raises question over whether Trump is considering firing the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, who was appointed to investigate the president's ties to Russian Federation. The report says committee staff found "intelligence failings" that undermine that assessment by the FBI, CIA and NSA, though specifics are not detailed and some portions of that section are redacted.

"Their report, as with their overall conduct of the investigation, is unworthy of this committee, the House of Representatives, and most importantly, the American people, who are now left to try to discern what is true and what is not", minority Democrats wrote in their response.

The report's conclusion is being opposed by Democrats, who say the committee did not do enough to support its finding.

The committee's investigation began with bipartisanship but ultimately succumbed to factional squabbling.

The report comes after a brief memo was issued last month summarizing the findings. But the probe did provide important public revelations. One day later, the committee's chairman, Devin Nunes, took a clandestine trip to the White House grounds to review classified information that quickly drew scrutiny after he publicly disclosed that Trump associates' communications had been swept up by US spy agencies and accused Obama administration officials of misconduct.
