Project Kinect for Azure is Microsoft's AI sensor gift to devs

Microsoft announced today that they will be open sourcing their Azure IoT Edge Runtime allowing their customers to "modify, debug, and have more transparency and control for edge applications". Now customers will be able to access Timeline on an iPhone with Microsoft Edge. This will allow devices such as drones to take important actions without connecting to the cloud. In addition to the new Project Kinect for Azure, Microsoft is opening up its other applications for edge devices.

While Microsoft has moved away from Windows as an operating system for smartphones, the company is now focused on enabling users to more easily interact between Windows PCs and their iOS or Android device. Microsoft is also expected to roll out the Redstone 5 release by the end of this year.

Microsoft plans to share more details on 365 during tomorrow's Build festivities. Microsoft's Azure IoT Edge service uses AI, Azure services and custom logic to deliver cloud intelligence locally on cross-platform IoT devices.

This will also be coming in a more limited form to iOS if you use Microsoft Edge on iOS, which I would assume is a pretty small percentage of iOS users.
