Professor David Goodall had a meeting with death on Thursday-and he was looking forward to it.

"At my age, or less than my age, one wants to be free to choose the death when the death is at an appropriate time", Prof Goodall said.

The Swiss federal statistics office says the number of assisted suicides has been growing fast: Nine years ago, there were 297.
