Philadelphia Eagles officially name Nick Foles Week 1 starting quarterback

But leading up to that Thursday night matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, there's that concerning question of whether superstar quarterback Carson Wentz will start despite the major ACL injury he suffered late previous year.

"Nick Foles is the starter and we have complete confidence, obviously, in what he can do", Pederson told PhiladelphiaEagles.com's Dave Spadaro.

Foles struggled a bit down the stretch of the regular season, but was electric during the playoffs and was the best player on the field during the Super Bowl.

This morning the crew gathered in the Russian segment of the Space Station before searching for the cause of the pressure change. The hole is located in the upper, spherical section of the Soyuz, which does not return to Earth, according to NASA .

That would seem to all but guarantee that Foles will get the start, unless his shaky preseason has suddenly put third-stringer Nate Sudfeld in the running.

It had been reported earlier this week that Foles would start, but the Eagles did not confirm that until Monday morning. The Eagles have won 13 of his last 15 starts.

As Wentz continues to try to bounce back in his rehab from knee surgery, it'll be interesting to see how long the defending Super Bowl champions will keep him sidelined. It isn't. Wentz not playing in Week 1 doesn't make how he looked the past few weeks mean any less. There's been a lot of questions about Wentz's status with head coach Doug Pederson getting quite chippy about the constant speculation.

While the Eagles might not have Carson Wentz to start the season, they do have reigning Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles.

Foles gets the nod because Carson Wentz has yet to be cleared for a full return to football activities. It's Foles, and that's just fine with the Eagles. And until he is cleared, until he is deemed 100 percent ready to play competitive, tackle football, Wentz will not play. But I wanted you to hear it from me.
