Kavanaugh accuser demands Federal Bureau of Investigation probe before testifying

Posted September 19, 2018

After initially suggesting a private conference call on the matter would suffice, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley said his panel would hold a hearing next Monday "to provide ample transparency".

The Republican leader criticized Democrats for sitting on the information during weeks of debate on Kavanaugh's nomination. Without Kennedy on the court, the justices are split 4-4 between liberals and conservatives.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing for Monday at which Kavanaugh will testify.

However, Republicans have rejected the possibility of involvement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Thursday's vote will not occur.

That's a proposal President Trump himself rejected earlier Tuesday prior to the release of the letter from Ford's attorneys.

If the Judiciary committee's timetable slips further, it would become increasingly hard for Republicans to schedule a vote before the November 6 elections, in which congressional control will be at stake.

Trump is praising Kavanaugh as one of the finest people he's known.

Among the GOP defectors was Sen.

Duke Energy has 20,000 linemen on standby for Hurricane Florence
That scenario has a high probability of occurring in much of North Carolina, a large portion of SC and parts of northern Georgia. Florence's centre was about 40km east of Wilmington, North Carolina at 4am on Friday and moving west at 10km/h, the NHC said.

"Of course it helps that there are women on that committee, but you know what?" And the North Carolina minister went on to say that while the Christian Right likes Judge Kavanaugh when it comes to abortion, they aren't so Christian when it comes to their quest to "make life more hard for minorities, workers, poor people, and the LGBTQ community".

Two dozen women from the all-girls Holton Arms school where Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford attended have written the Senate to vouch for her integrity. One possibility is that Democrats planned from the start to spring Ford's accusation at the last moment, to maximize the element of surprise, and Feinstein played it close to the vest because that's what a good ambush requires. Neither Collins nor Murkowski faces re-election this fall.

Republicans also seized on a remark from Feinstein to Fox News that they saw as casting doubt on elements of Ford's story.

"I've said from the beginning that these are very serious allegations and she deserves to be heard", Collins said.

Some Democrats raised questions about whether Grassley's plan was sufficient.

Ms Ford has said she is willing to testify before senators but on Wednesday night it emerged she wanted the FBI to investigate her allegations before she appears in Congress. "I did not do this back in high school or at any time", he said in his first statement on Friday.

Another Democrat on the panel, Sen. "The FBI is not doing any further investigation".

In response to the letter, Grassley wrote that the invitation for a Monday hearing "still stands". There was no evidence of any violence, physical touching or anything like that, whereas Dr. Blasey - I think that's how she says her name - she is making the claim of attempted rape.

Kavanaugh denies high school assault allegation
The Telegraph contacted the White House for comment on Ms Ford's claims , but had no response at the time of going to press. Judge stood across the room, she said, and both boys were laughing "maniacally".

"I believe that the FBI... should be compelled to do its job in terms of completing their background investigation and that's not being done". As surely as the sun rises and sets, every Democrat in the Senate, Feinstein included, will claim to believe Ford over Kavanaugh by next Monday evening. In 2007, Thomas said he was "naive" when President George H.W. Bush nominated him, and said fighting the allegations meant more than a seat on the Supreme Court.

"We are alumnae of Holton-Arms School, and we are writing in support of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, a fellow Holton graduate".

Grassley told Hewitt that he has not heard from Blasey Ford yet, saying the committee has reached out to her.

Ford, now a psychology professor at California's Palo Alto University, gave her description of her encounter with Kavanaugh to The Washington Post in an interview published Sunday.

"The FBI investigation of Judge Kavanaugh is closed", he said. Kavanaugh, who has denied the assault allegation, met with officials at the White House on Tuesday for a second straight day. The Judiciary Committee's role is not to determine guilt or innocence but advise the Senate on whether to confirm Kavanaugh.

Judge Kavanaugh, 53, has called the allegation "completely false".

Heller is the most vulnerable of the three and the National Abortion Rights Action League wasted no time Monday in increasing the pressure on Heller to oppose Kavanaugh.
