Though some 60 women have accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault-specifically of drugging and raping them-none of those accusations has resulted in prison time for Cosby, until today, when he was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for the assault of Andrea Constand in 2004.
The classification handed down by Judge Steven O'Neil means that Cosby must undergo lifetime counselling and report quarterly to authorities. He will also be on the sex offenders list sent to schools and neighbours.
The judge said it's "time for justice" as he sentenced Cosby to state prison and fined him $25,000.
The disgraced comedian was sentenced to serve 3 to 10 years in a state prison earlier in the day and many are praising the judge's decision. The prosecutors originally asked for five to ten years, while the defense requested house arrest based on Cosby's advancing age and a claim of being legally blind.
The hearing is set to conclude Tuesday after testimony from a defence psychologist who believes Cosby is no longer a danger, given his age, and should not be branded a "sexually violent predator".
Cosby was found guilty in April of molesting Constand, who had been operations manager of the women's basketball team at Temple University, where Cosby had been a major supporter and donor.
Russian Federation to supply Syria with missile system
The supply of S-300s to Syria will "calm down some hotheads" whose actions "pose a threat to our troops", he said. A spokesperson for the Israeli army on Monday declined to comment on Moscow's S-300 delivery.
The comedian's first trial in 2017 ended in a hung jury.
Cosby spokesman Andrew Wyatt said the former TV star planned to remain silent when given the opportunity to address the court.
During victim impact statements on Monday, Constand's mother told the court that her family feels vindicated. He will also be classified a "sexually violent predator" for the rest of his life.
Cosby's attorneys have already filed an appeal. "So lenient that I nearly wouldn't be surprised if Cosby's people only file an appeal of the guilty verdict".
Looking at Constand, seated in the gallery, O'Neill referenced the words "no, no, no" that she heard in her head as the assault took place in January 2004, and she was powerless to fight him off after being sedated.
Pogba backs Sanchez to improve
The former Sporting Lisbon and Porto playmaker has been included in Alan Shearer's Team of the Week as a result. They deserved their point and we deserve the punishment of only getting one point.
Outside the courthouse, Allred, who represented some of Cosby's accusers, said she's "glad the judgment day has finally come for Mr. Cosby". O'Neill allowed five of them to testify at trial, while others came to watch the court proceedings.
"Your honor, I have testified", Constand said.
"The victims can not be un-raped".
O'Neill said he gave substantial weight to the impact of the sexual assault on victim Andrea Constand, who was seated in the courtroom when the sentence was announced.
Constand said she thought the pills were herbal remedies for stress and was stunned and confused when they caused her words to slur, her vision to blur and her legs to turn rubbery, she testified.
But Steele says it's ridiculous to think Cosby should get what Steele called a "get out of jail free card" because it took this long to catch up with him.
Maurizio Sarri raises concerns about Chelsea's too many matches this campaign
Klopp is in his fourth season at Liverpool, while Sarri only succeeded Antonio Conte in mid-July. Maybe spectacular but for us, difficult.
