Met Éireann are keeping the Orange Status Wind Warning in place for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Clare until 5pm on Friday evening, while the rest of the country will be taken off the orange status as of 9am on Friday morning.
Western Power Distribution said more than 950 homes had been left without electricity in south-west England and almost 100 were without power in south Wales.
Other regions of the United Kingdom were expected to remain largely dry, but strong winds were forecast. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees will occur early in the night.

Yellow weather warnings for wind and rain are in place for parts of Devon, north Wales, northern England and southern Scotland, meaning these areas could continue to receive significant amounts of rainfall. "Elsewhere, however, the winds should remain below warning thresholds".
