Should studios just let the franchise die already?

The film is also the second biggest October opener, narrowly pipped by Venom which grossed $80.2m (£61.3m) earlier this month and the second largest R-rated horror ever, beaten only by It, which took in an eye-watering $123.4m (£94.4m) a year ago.

Curtis shared the news in a tweet, writing that she's "going for one BOAST post".

Khashoggi probe: Erdogan vows to uncover truth after Saudi admission
Ahmed al-Assiri and Saud al-Qahtani, a top adviser to Crown Prince Salman - as part of an investigation into the Khashoggi case. From the outset, Riyadh claimed Khashoggi , a leading critic of the Saudi government, left the consulate soon after arriving.

David Gordon Green directs the latest "Halloween", but original director John Carpenter serves as executive producer. The strategy to open it at the Toronto Film Festival and premiere it in America during Fantastic Fest probably helped, too, but make no mistake: Jamie Lee Curtis was a huge selling point, right along with the October release date. Other movies that count as horror with better first-weekend attendances include Hannibal (10.2 million), making Halloween the third-best R-rated title.

Biggest movie opening with a female lead over 55.

The movie sees Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her role as Laurie Strode and picks up 40 years after the original. Venom is still doing pretty well, dipping only another 48.3% in its third weekend to fall to third place. The Hate U Give, meanwhile, expanded into wide release with so-so attendance (0.8 million) but the chance of further success given its rare 'A+' grade via CinemaScore polling.

Rounding out the top five this weekend are Warner Bros'. music-driven romance A Star Is Born, with about $19.3 million; Sony's superhero movie Venom, with about $18.1 million; Sony's kid-friendly chiller Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, with about $9.7 million; and Universal's Neil Armstrong biopic First Man, with about $8.6 million.

"Honestly, if you boiled down how many days I have been employed as an actor, compared to how many days I've been unemployed as an actor, it would shock you". This past weekend put the total ticket sales at about 1.0427 billion, slightly better than 2016's 1.0413 billion. The horror genre is one of the most enduring in Hollywood, even as the box office has become more challenging, with titles regularly breaching expectations. Past year hadn't even hit a billion by this point, even with IT.

Mnuchin: Trump respects Fed but likes low interest rates
But as the campaign has continued, the attention of markets has increasingly turned to when the Fed would stop raising rates. But, crucially, the higher long-term interest rates don't seem to be driven by expectations that inflation will soar higher.
