California city reeling from mass shooting besieged by fire

Cal Fire had not reported any firefighter fatalities related to containment efforts on the Camp Fire, nor the two burning in Ventura County, as of 10 a.m. Friday.

Cal State Channel Islands has also been closed.

Fire crews were especially concerned with Highway 101 in the Agoura area Friday morning, where flames began jumping from the north side to the south side of the freeway about 5:30 a.m., KTLA reported.

The fire placed 75,000 homes in Los Angeles and Ventura counties under evacuation orders Friday morning and was zero percent contained after scorching 8,000 acres, destroying multiple structures and threatening at least 30,000 homes in the two counties, authorities said.

An evacuation site was at capacity at the Thousand Oaks Teen Centre, which had also served as a family assistance and reunification site following the shooting.

Earlier in the day, the Hill Fire near Thousand Oaks in Ventura Country needed just 12 minutes to jump Highway 101, one of the area's primary roadways.
