Winter Storm Warnings now in effect, several inches of snow expected

A "real Midwest winter" is on the way for the Chicago area, with snow flurries expected Thursday before temperatures plummet by Sunday, the National Weather Service is warning.

A winter storm watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening across parts of northern CT.

Heavier snowfall is expected to the east and north of the Kansas City area, where between 4 and 8 inches of snow is possible during the same 24-hour period.

By nightfall Sunday, most Chicagoans should expect the temperature to be in the single digits. This storm will bring rapid snow accumulations along with gusty northeast winds.

A winter storm approaches today and brings snowfall beginning this afternoon.

As for accumulations, it appears now that northwest Missouri could see the most snow.
