Japan's Shinzo Abe nominated Trump for Nobel after U.S. request

Trump's assertion Friday that Abe had nominated him for the honor and sent him a copy of the letter has raised criticism in Japan.

The comment from Trump came Friday in a speech from the Rose Garden of the White House, when he said that Abe had sent a "most handsome five-page letter" to the Nobel committee to nominate him for the prize.

He said Abe sent the nomination because Japan now feels "good" and "safe" after North Korean ballistic missile launches ceased.

According to the sources, the USA government "informally" asked Tokyo to nominate Trump after he met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore in June, the first-ever summit between the two countries. The Nobel committee has similarly not responded to the president's comments.

"Cooperating hand-in-hand with President Trump, I'd like to make all-out efforts to resolve the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abduction issue, as the most important agenda for our country", Abe said.

Online shopping has led to a drop in foot-traffic at U.S. malls, which were a vital source of customers for stores like Payless. It re-emerged from restructuring four months later with about 3,500 stores and eliminated more than $435 million in debt.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula saw a significant improvement a year ago, with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un boosting ties with Seoul and holding a historic summit with Trump in Singapore in June.

Trump said he thanked Abe at the time, but added that he did not expect to win the prize, and that that was "OK".

"North Korea summit", the prime minister said.

Abe, in the paper's words, was "acceding to a request from Washington" with the nomination.

A wide range of people can nominate for the Nobel Peace Prize, including members of parliaments and governments, heads of state, university professors of history, social sciences or law and past Nobel Peace Prize laureates, among others. "He was [in office] for about 15 seconds and he got the Nobel Prize", Trump said.

While award performances can be stressful, Kacey approached the night with the mindset she was just going to have fun. When I saw the concert, it was a sea of fans screaming the lyrics and falling in love with Ally all over again.

The deadline each year for nominations is midnight, January 31.

"No Nobel Peace Prize ever elicited more attention than the 2009 prize to Barack Obama", Lundestad wrote in his memoir. He was the first foreign leader to meet Mr. Trump after he won the 2016 presidential election. The spokesman, Kim Eui-keum, said that as far as he knows, Moon hadn't done so.

Nobel prizes are usually announced in October but awarded annually on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, who gives his name to the awards. That's a welcome development for Japan, which sits well within the range of its missiles and has sometimes had test rockets land in its territorial waters. The prize is awarded on December 10, in Oslo, Norway.
