Trump's former lawyer Cohen gets two-month delay to report to prison

Michael Cohen, President Trump's former personal lawyer, will testify before a congressional committee on February 27, the panel announced Wednesday. He also has said he did nothing wrong and that Cohen has pleaded guilty to actions that aren't actually against the law.

Jordan charged that Cohen was invited "just to satisfy Tom Steyer", - a billionaire Democrat who is funding a campaign to impeach Trump - "and other political forces on the left".

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate intelligence committee will interview President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer behind closed doors on Tuesday, according to a person familiar with the matter. New York Judge William Pauley signed off on the delay Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, after Cohen's lawyer said he needed more time to recover from shoulder surgery.

Cohen will not be questioned about the ongoing investigations by Special Counsel Robert Mueller or the House and Senate Intelligence Committees into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. He was originally scheduled to report to prison March 6.

"Despite @RealDonaldTrump attacks against his family, Mr. Cohen will not be deterred, will speak about his decade long experiences working for Mr. Trump, his own mistakes and decision to put family and country first", Cohen lawyer Lanny Davis tweeted after the rescheduled hearing was announced.

"I am pleased to announce that Michael Cohen's public testimony before the oversight committee is back on, despite efforts by some to intimidate his family members and prevent him from appearing", said Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., in a statement on Wednesday.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to Step Down by March
President Trump reacted furiously to the interview, tweeting of "illegal and treasonous" behaviour and an "illegal coup attempt". Rosenstein ceased overseeing Mueller's probe on 7 November when Trump named Matt Whittaker acting attorney general.

They noted prosecutors did not object to a "one-time" 60-day delay.

Cohen told lawmakers in 2017 that he had abandoned a Trump business proposal in Moscow in January 2016, but he later acknowledged he continued pursuing it for months after that.

Cohen's attorneys say he will also testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee sometime this month, but a date has not been formally set.
