Trump says public should see 'ridiculous' Mueller report

Posted March 24, 2019

In late February, CNN broke the story that the investigation being led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into collusion between President Donald Trump's campaign and Russian Federation might wrap up any day. Investigators have examined key episodes such as Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey and Trump's fury over Attorney General Jeff Sessions' recusal.

Still, he said the report that Mueller is writing should be released, so they can evaluate the claims for themselves. But the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director said Democrats should push for something far more productive, such as taking back the White House in 2020.

President Trump sure sounds confident that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report won't be as damaging as the president's critics have hoped. He also argued that he won the support of "tens of millions of voters" in 2016, while Mueller "never got a vote".

Trump, of course, nominated Rosenstein, who was confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate in a 94-6 vote.

Russia's foreign ministry said Mr Trump's statement was a direct violation of United Nations decisions, RIA news agency said. Although the annexation was unofficial, the region undertook Israeli laws and jurisdiction.

Another issue is that as much of Mueller's investigation represents a counter intelligence probe into election meddling by Russian spy agencies, some findings might need to remain classified.

The messaging could carry the President through the critical final stages of the Mueller investigation, and also frame a pillar of his re-election argument as he heads out onto the campaign trail ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell is not convinced that Donal Trump meant what he just said about making the Mueller report public.

Mueller is expected to present a report to the Justice Department any day now outlining the findings of his almost two-year investigation into Russian election meddling, possible collusion with Trump campaign officials and possible obstruction of justice by Trump.

But the evidence so far shows that a broad range of Trump associates had Russia-related contacts during the 2016 presidential campaign and transition period, and several lied about the communications.

Trump is not the only senior Washington politician who is preparing the political terrain for the eventual filing of the Mueller report. "I think it's ridiculous, but I want to see it". Nadler said his panel must look at "a much broader question" than Mueller has.

In fact, Trump has told his inner circle that, if the report is underwhelming he will use Twitter and interviews to gloat over the findings, complain about the probe's cost and depict the entire investigation as an attempt to obstruct his agenda, according to advisers and confidants.
