The potential exposure comes as the number of confirmed cases in the United States continues to rise, with 704 cases this year as of April 26, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the ISDH, Indiana residents choosing to seek a MMR vaccine from a pharmacist using the order should state they will be using the state health commissioner's standing order. In the wake of the current outbreak, the recommended age of vaccination has been lowered to at least 6 months of age.

Measles has been reported in three states that border Utah - Nevada, Arizona and Colorado.

If you're a parent, talk to your child's doctor to make sure your child is up to date on all of his or her scheduled vaccinations. "Several calls both for children and adults".

Adults with compromised immune systems unable to get the shot should ensure that family and close contacts get two doses. Two doses of the vaccine fully immunise against measles. If you have been exposed, you are at risk if you have not been vaccinated or have not had measles.

County health officials say these cases are not linked to the ongoing measles outbreak in the USA or to the measles case reported earlier in the week in a county resident. "Two doses of measles vaccine are about 97 percent effective in preventing measles", said Dr. Christina Tan, state epidemiologist.

Before traveling to a country with ongoing measles outbreaks, infants from 6 to 11 months old should receive one dose of the vaccine.

"If we're traveling internationally, because we know that many cases of measles happen outside the country, we want to protect our children", said Dr. Damien Ternullo, a pediatrician for Allegheny Health Network. Vaccines do not cause autism and do not contain toxic chemicals.

"In addition to advising vaccination for all individuals at risk, the Ministry of Health is collaborating with healthcare providers on island to assure that all are on heightened alert to the possibility of measles".

The vaccine is also available at the Health Department's immunization clinic, located at 425 First Avenue, Fourth Floor, in downtown Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh PA 15219 (entrance is on Cherry Way).

Yesterday, one of the infected people was at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car location at 2260 Babcock Boulevard, meaning that anyone there from 2 to 5 p.m. could have been exposed.

In addition, the CDC considers anyone vaccinated between 1957 and 1963 to be at increased risk of contracting measles because they probably received a vaccine that contained inactivated measles virus.

At one festival, multiple people caught measles then attended other festivals while infectious, resulting in multiple linked outbreaks. "Let us just read about them while we keep our children well and playing together, so we don't have to worry about whether this child or that child has been vaccinated".
